Human beings come in all sizes and shapes and every one of us deserve to be celebrated. So many times I have heard someone say that they would look better in something they were wearing if they just … “Lost some weight,” “Were taller,” or… you name it and I’ve heard it. In this day and age it is so easy to minimize or be negative to ourselves. I’m here to change that narrative, offer a safe space for all bodies and turn a critical negative into an empowering positive. It was a game changer for me when I heard a dear friend and mentor say , “clothes are made to fit people, people are not made to fit clothes”.

Traditionally, after a tailor finishes their apprenticeship, they focus on one type of garment and master just that one specific thing. In the modern age of being a person who sews professionally there are so many facets of the industry to explore and that have high demand. I’ve been lucky enough to have had mentors in many facets of this industry, from my BFA in fiber & textile processes, to years of working alongside multigenerational tailoring families. The titles of ‘tailor’ or ‘seamstress’ have a different historical origin and meaning. I’m much more than that.

There’s a reason I’m called The Sewing Smith and it’s because I do way more than just one thing. I’m here to listen to your story and empower you to be your best self.

Heirloom Updating

What is an heirloom? It is more than just a hand me down. It is a story. It is something that allows us to connect to the ones who have come before us. To tell the story of our loved ones, ancestors, kin, mentors, and idols. Who is a part of your story? Who and what do you choose to carry with you?
